Helping Keep Texas Great!
The South Texas BBQ Bash was established as a nonprofit in July 2021 to give back to the community that has always supported workers in the energy industry. The idea originated in 2020, during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when a group of founders—employed by a respected mid-size operator in West Texas—witnessed the struggles of elderly community members.
Amid tightened industry budgets, many seniors were found lacking basic necessities such as food, transportation, and family support, often surviving on just one meal a day provided by a kind-hearted local resident. Deeply moved by this reality, a small group decided to take action by organizing a vibrant BBQ competition to raise funds and provide assistance to the community’s most vulnerable members.
By 2025, the Texas BBQ Bash has generated over $1 million in charitable contributions, benefiting oil and gas communities across Texas. These efforts include providing free meals, entertainment, and financial aid to those in need. Since its inception, the event has attracted more than 200 competitive Pitmasters from across the country, all competing for the prestigious title of Texas BBQ Bash Competition BBQ Pitmaster.
